Based in Naarm/ Melbourne.
Conceptually my work is interested in the erosion of time and cultural memory. My video, photographic, and sculptural practice is placed in a dialogue with installation-based environments to describe how a queer lens can help us negotiate our relationship to the past. By layering the complicated histories of queer politics, queer art, and queer cinema and drawing inspiration from a range of eras, the work destabilises the linear structure of archival repositories. Guided by my research-based approach, I critically engage with these existing ‘standard’ processes and offer in response through my art new, unconventional, and ‘queered’ researching methodologies. Aesthetically my work is influenced by cinema, public memorials and the presentation of archival material. By fracturing these ingrained systems, my work intends to give space instead to queer experiences of the past previously deemed too difficult or even problematic to depict.
